Bolkow Covers

Mark Hickman has sent in a few photos of D-EAMB with her full set of outdoor covers. Mark notes, ''I would rather she was in a hangar but these are probably the next best thing as they are waterproof and fully lined. Keeps me fit getting them on and off too!''

Sarah King at Sky4covers has the Bolkow Junior pattern now if any other Bolkowers are interested.

Thank you from Gunther...

Hi Dear Airmen and Mates of the Bolkow Squadron International,

Today I would like to take the chance to say : THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. Our highlight in the Squadron, Stewart Chuck Luck, informs me in our camp, we had on Wittman Airfield Oshkosh, that the members of our Squadron spend money to pay the V.A.T. of my ticket, Düsseldorf-Paris-Chicago and back. I am very preciate and thankful for this friendly action, what you all did. Promise you as the last 25 years, I will support you looking for spare parts and knowledge for the Boelkows.

Thank You Airmen,

Gunther H. Butterweck

208 Rubber Step Pads

(Stewart Buckingham, D-EEAH)

...at Deist I got talking to one of the pilots who came in the EADS Museum Bo207, who had been a development pilot on the 208 programme! Had some interesting tales of taking a Junior on a marketing tour round sub-Saharan Africa for a month or two, 90+ hrs flying to some very out-of-the-way places! He noticed that my aircraft did not have any rubber pads on the cockpit steps.

When I first encountered D’AH with its previous owner, it had had rubber pads on the steps, but they were worn out so he removed them and painted the steps with wing-walk paint, which was better than nothing but did not look “right”. But were could I get new pads from? Well, a conversation at Deist revealed that the pads were actually brake pedal rubbers from an (unspecified) BMW car. I have now discovered that they are actually the rubbers for the Type 2002 BMW Automatic (1963-1976 models).

I’m not sure if these can still be obtained from BMW dealers, but they ARE available from JAYMIC (Contact details: Jaymic Ltd, 2002 Thurgarton Road, Aldborough, Norfolk, NR11 7NY, Tel: +44 (0)1263 768768 Fax: +44 (0)1263 768336 http://www.jaymic.com/ Email: enquiries@jaymic.com ).

They were very prompt and helpful when I contacted them and had the pads sent to me in a couple of days and under £10 the pair. Perhaps some other owners might like to buy some! Although these are undoubtedly the same pads used on the original Bolkow build, they do need a simple modification to fit – you need to trim off the lip down one long side to put them on the step – they are supplied with a lip right round to fit onto the brake/clutch pedal of the car!

Noseleg Crack - Help needed

Update (13-08-2009)...

Hi guys,

The noseleg problem on G-ATSI has been resolved, in fact it was not a problem at all. Many thanks to JW & GB for their help and offers. Because of my C of A renewal I will not be able to make Schaffen Diest. Hope to see you all at Sywell. Take some pics of SD and post them.

Cheers,
Roy S

Guys,

Just nearing the end of my CofA renewal and guess what, a crack in the noseleg.
It is the older type leg with the damper on the outside. The crack is about 3” up from the bottom, just below the upper bush. The crack goes about half way round, there is no crack on the outer skin.

1) Anyone know if this can be repaired and how?
2) Anyone have a noseleg for sale?
3) Where can I get a noseleg from?

Cheers

Bolkow Squadron Meeting...at Oshkosh

Calling all Squadron members...

The EAA's annual Air Venture at Oshkosh, Wisconsin is taking place between July 27th and August 2nd 2009.

To my knowledge, four of our number are attending this year's event. If any Bolkow flyers are planning to travel to Oshkosh it would be great to meet up for a beer or two. Let's try and add to the list:
Gunther Butterweck
Stewart Luck
Derek Hampson
Colin Hampson

The Bolkow's legs couldn't quite stretch to the 8000 mile roundtrip so we're all cheating and hitching a ride on a B747 (almost as good a tourer as the Bolkow). If any of our American members are planning to fly into Oshokosh, please do get in touch as we'd really love to meet up.
